Board of Adjustment
The Jackson County Board of Adjustment is made up of members appointed by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors. Board members serve five-year terms.
The Board of Adjustment is responsible for hearing and deciding certain zoning-related requests, including:
Administrative Appeals
The Board hears appeals when it is alleged that there has been an error in an order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the Zoning Administrator in enforcing the zoning ordinance.
Special Exceptions
The Board hears requests for special exceptions as allowed by the zoning ordinance. The Board may approve special exceptions with appropriate conditions and safeguards, or deny requests that are not in harmony with the purpose and intent of the zoning ordinance.
Variances
The Board may authorize variances from the terms of the zoning ordinance when the request meets the applicable legal standards. Variances are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may only be granted when the required findings are met.
