Registered Onsite Wastewater Installers

To protect public health and water quality, Jackson County requires septic installers to meet minimum certification and registration standards. Installers must hold current CIOWTS certification through IOWWA and complete annual registration with Jackson County Environmental Health prior to performing onsite wastewater system work. This page provides required steps, ongoing obligations, and compliance information.

Septic Installer Certification & Registration Requirements

All septic system installers working in Jackson County are required to meet the following qualifications prior to performing any onsite wastewater system installation, repair, or replacement:

  • Current CIOWTS Certification through the Iowa Onsite Wastewater Association (IOWWA)

  • Annual registration with Jackson County Environmental Health

Installers must maintain their CIOWTS certification in good standing and renew their county registration each year to remain eligible to obtain permits and perform work within the county.

Failure to maintain current certification or county registration may result in denial of permits and/or enforcement action.

For questions regarding installer certification, registration requirements, or renewal procedures, please contact Jackson County Environmental Health.
