DOT Traffic Counter Positions

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is accepting applications for summer jobs as manual traffic counters, traffic recorder operators, communication shop assistants, and continuous traffic count station calibrator with the department’s Systems Planning Bureau.

Applicants for travel field positions must be at least 18 years old at the time of employment with a valid driver’s license, available for introductory training starting May 18, work until mid-August, willing to travel statewide, and stay overnight from Sunday afternoons through Thursday mornings. A significant portion of the field work will be in southeastern Iowa. Some Ames-based office positions are available, and several positions may start in early April. The office positions are available to 16 and 17-year-old applicants as well as those with no driver’s license.

Travel positions pay $18.00 per hour and non-travel positions pay $17.60 per hour. Employees are reimbursed for eligible incurred expenses for food and lodging, and vehicles are supplied by the Iowa DOT.
