About the County Attorney

John Kies enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at a young age and served for 7 years, active duty, and was honorably discharged following the 1st Gulf War. He then served in the Iowa Army National Guard until Honorably discharged.

John Kies is an Honors Graduate of the University of Iowa, Phi Beta Kappa, and a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law.

John Kies has served as Jackson County attorney, Jackson County Magistrate and as a private practice attorney.

John has been married for 34 years to his wife, Emerita Kies, and they live with their 2 children in rural Jackson County. John is a member of the American Legion, The National Rifle Association, the Knights of Columbus, the American Veterans and St. Catherine’s Parish.
